Brethren, we gather here today under the grace of our Lord to celebrate the life and legacy of a beloved son, brother, and friend, Wendell Kurt Regis. Born on the 6th of December, 1992, and grew up in the spirited land of Pomme Rose, St. David, Grenada, Wendell was a beacon of joy and kindness to all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. It is with heavy hearts that we announce his departure from this earthly realm on the 26th of September, 2024, in Brooklyn, New York. Wendell was just 31 years of age, yet his spirit was as old as the hills, wise beyond his years, and as giving as the fertile soil of his native land. Wendell's journey in this life began with the love and nurturing of his dear mother, Rosey Thomas. She raised him with tenderness and instilled in him the values of family and faith that he carried with him every day. Wendell's kinship and camaraderie were shared with his brother, Joshua Thomas, and his sister, Marylyn Williams, both of whom found in him not just a sibling, but a true friend and confidant. His grandmother, Mary Regis, back in the land of his birth, Grenada, will remember Wendell as the grandchild who always held a special place in her heart. Wendell's life was a tapestry woven with the love of his nephews, who looked up to him as a role model and a source of endless fun and wisdom. His familial bonds extended to his aunts, Rose Bernard and Nicole Regis, in Grenada, who will cherish the memories of the laughter they shared. His grandaunts, Gertrude Mitchelle in Canada and Rita Morain in Grenada, as well as his uncles, David Morain and Winston Regis in the USA, along with Dennekey Regis, Eon Baptiste, Jimmy Bernard, and Devon Andrews in Grenada, all held a special place in Wendell's heart. His granduncles, Joslyn Morain of Grenada, John Morain of the USA, and Byron Regis of Grenada, along with his great granduncle Buck, will no doubt recount tales of Wendell's youth, his growth into manhood, and the fine character he exhibited. Wendell's cousins, spread across the USA and Grenada, including Jeramy Bernard, Diana Morain, Jamie Bernard, Jamella Regis, Brittney Morain, Jonathan Blackman, and Niomie Blackman, have all been touched by his spirit. To the many relatives and close friends, including Catherine Clyne and family, and the extended clans of Regis, Morain, Penny, Noel, Jeremiah, and Bartholomew, Wendell's absence will be felt like the silence after a mighty chorus. His laughter was as comforting as a gentle southern breeze on a hot summer's day. His friends, Daniel Williams, along with Quentin Kendell, will carry forward the torch of Wendell's legacy, ensuring his light continues to shine bright. Wendell Kurt Regis was a man of faith, and a man who left an indelible mark on the hearts and souls of all who knew him. Wendell's life was a sermon of love, a testament to the power of family and friendship, and a narrative of a journey well-traveled, albeit too short. We take solace in knowing that he now rests in the glorious kingdom of Heaven, where the streets are golden, and the burdens of this world are lifted. Let us not mourn Wendell with sorrow in our hearts, but rather celebrate his life with the joy he would have wished for us. May his soul be cradled in the arms of our Savior, and may his memory be a blessing that continues to inspire and guide us. Wendell Kurt Regis, you were loved, you are missed, and you will forever be remembered. Go in peace, dear brother, until we meet again at the Lord's table.
